Which radio does the Leon II have?

The Seat Leon II was supplied with radios from the VAG platform (Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft):

Concert — The entry-level model. A CD radio by Grundig/Bosch, identical to the VW RCD 300/310 but with Seat's interface. Standard on Reference and Style trim levels.

Symphony — The premium variant with a better audio processor and sometimes a 6-disc CD changer. Comparable to the VW RCD 510.

Navigation Plus (RNS 510) — A touchscreen unit with HDD navigation. The same system as found in the Golf V/VI and Passat B6. Optional on Sport and FR trim levels.

All three use a four-digit security code and an SEZ serial number.

SEZ instead of VWZ

The most important difference from a VW: the serial number on a Seat radio starts with SEZ rather than VWZ. It is fourteen characters long, for example SEZ3Z216768674.

If you search online for "VW radio code" and enter your Seat serial number, you will get no result. You specifically need a code calculated for an SEZ number.

Where do you find the radio code?

Seat included a code card with the Leon II in the document wallet:

  • Service booklet — A small card tucked between the pages
  • Glovebox — A sticker or loose card
  • With the spare keys

Removing the radio

The Leon II radio is secured in the same way as the Golf V: Torx T20 screws behind a plastic trim strip.

Remove the trim panel using a plastic pry tool.

Undo the four Torx T20 screws.

Read the SEZ serial number from the sticker on the side of the unit. ### VCDS alternative Using VCDS (Address 56, Advanced ID), you can sometimes read out the serial number without removing the radio. This works on all VAG vehicles — including Seat.

Entering the code on the Leon II

Once you have the four-digit code, enter it as follows:

Turn the ignition on (the engine does not need to be running). The display shows "1000".

Press button 1 to set the first digit. Each press increases it by one (0 → 1 → 2 → ... → 9 → 0).

Use buttons 2, 3, and 4 to set the second, third, and fourth digits.

Check that the code shown on the display is correct.

Hold the seek button (right arrow) for two seconds to confirm.

If the code is correct, the radio will start playing immediately. ### SAFE lockout After two incorrect attempts, "SAFE" appears on the display. The radio temporarily locks out. Here is how to resolve it:

Leave the ignition on — key in the "on" position, engine off.

Wait at least sixty minutes. Do not disconnect the battery.

After the waiting period, "1000" will appear again and you will have two more attempts. ### Seat-specific: the FR and Cupra The sportier FR and Cupra versions of the Leon II sometimes featured a different audio system with a more powerful amplifier and additional speakers. The radio code procedure is the same, but the serial number may be positioned differently on the unit — check both the left side and the top.

Leon III: code or no code?

The Leon III (2012–2020) came on two platforms:

  • Up to 2015 with Concert, Bolero, or Swing: code required (SEZ serial number)
  • From 2015 onwards with MIB2 (Swing 3, Navi System Plus): no code — VIN-linked, just like the Golf VII and A3 8V
