Which radio does the Caddy have?

The Caddy shares its radio line-up with the Golf and Touran:

Caddy III (2004-2015):

  • RCD 210 — Basic CD radio by TechniSat. Simple display, six preset buttons.
  • RCD 310 — CD + MP3 by Bosch. The most common radio. Identical to the Golf V/VI version.

Caddy IV (2015-2019):

  • Composition Audio — 5-inch colour screen, no touchscreen. Standard on Trendline.
  • Composition Media — 6.5-inch touchscreen. Standard on Comfortline and above.

All variants have a VWZ serial number (fourteen characters) and a four-digit security code — unless the model has Komponentenschutz (see below).

Why is the code missing more often in a Caddy?

Vans change hands more frequently than passenger cars. The code card gets lost during a business handover, the radio is replaced by a previous owner, or the fleet manager has the code tucked away in an office drawer somewhere.

It is still worth checking the usual places first:

  • Service booklet — if it is still with the vehicle
  • Glove box — sticker on the inside of the lid
  • The company the Caddy came from — they may still have the code on file

Caddy III (up to 2015)

The same Torx T20 method as the Golf V:

Remove the trim panel using a pry tool.

Undo the four Torx T20 screws.

Slide the radio forwards. ### Caddy IV (2015+) The dashboard panel is shaped slightly differently, but the fixings are still Torx T20. Prise the trim panel away, undo the screws, then slide the unit forwards. The VWZ serial number is on the sticker on the side of the unit.

Entering the code on the Caddy

The entry procedure depends on which radio you have:

RCD 210 / RCD 310 (buttons)

Switch the ignition on. The display shows "1000".

Press button 1 to set the first digit. Each press increases it by one.

Use buttons 2, 3, and 4 to set the remaining digits.

Hold the seek button (right arrow) for two seconds to confirm. ### Composition Audio (5-inch screen)

The display shows a code entry field.

Turn the volume knob to select each digit.

Press the knob to confirm and move to the next digit.

Repeat for all four digits. ### Composition Media (touchscreen)

Enter the four digits using the touchscreen.

Press OK to confirm. After two incorrect attempts, "SAFE" appears on the display. Leave the ignition on for sixty minutes — the engine does not need to be running. Do not disconnect the battery, as this resets the waiting period.

Van tip: keep the code safe

In vans, the driver changes regularly. Stick the radio code on a label on the inside of the fuel filler flap or in the vehicle's document wallet that stays with the vehicle. That way, every new driver can find it without having to look up the serial number again.

Komponentenschutz in the Caddy IV

Later Caddy IV models (2016+) with the MIB2 platform may have Komponentenschutz — a VIN-linked system that replaces the traditional code. You can recognise it by the fact that after a battery change the radio either starts up normally or locks out without offering any code entry screen (if there is a VIN mismatch).
