Citroën C3 II Radio Code

Citroën and Peugeot share not only their platform but also their radios. As the owner of a C3 II, you're dealing with the same PSA radio systems as Peugeot drivers — and therefore the same security code after a battery change.

The Citroën C3 II was supplied with two radios from the PSA range:

Blaupunkt RD4 — The standard radio in most C3 II examples. A CD player with RDS and a small green or amber display. Recognisable by the six preset buttons below the display. The serial number starts with BP.

Continental RD45 — The successor to the RD4, fitted in later C3 II models (from around 2012). It adds Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming. Recognisable by the Bluetooth button on the front.

Both radios are functionally identical to those in the Peugeot 207, 308 and Partner. The security code is unique to each unit.

Citroën supplied an anti-theft security card with every car. This card, showing the radio code, was kept with the documents. Look in:

• The document wallet with the service book
• The glovebox — a loose card or sticker on the inside
• The audio instruction booklet
• With the keys — in the same envelope as the spare key

The RD4 and RD45 are secured with DIN clips. You'll need PSA release keys.

Tools: Citroën/Peugeot release keys, product code CT22UV01. Cost: three to six pounds. The same keys work for all PSA models.

Steps:

The serial number is on a white label on the top of the radio. On the RD4 it starts with BP followed by fourteen digits. On the RD45 the format may be slightly different, but the BP prefix remains.

Note: there are several numbers on the label. You're looking for the one that starts with BP — not the PSA part number (which starts with 96...).

The entry procedure is identical to that of the Peugeot:

The RD4 locks out after several incorrect attempts. The display shows nothing or the radio stops responding. Leave the ignition on for at least thirty to sixty minutes. After that, "CODE" will appear again.

Just as with Peugeot, the RD4 in the Citroën C3 also handles vehicle information via the display — outside temperature, trip computer and warnings. Are you replacing the radio with an aftermarket unit? If so, you'll lose these functions.

When fitting an RD4 from another car, you'll need PSA DiagBox to pair the unit to your C3.
