Which radio is fitted in the Sandero II?

The second-generation Sandero (2013–2019) shares its audio system entirely with the Renault B-segment. There are two variants:

Update List (base trim)

The Update List by Continental (formerly VDO Siemens) is the standard radio in most Sandero II models. You can recognise it by the narrow display with six preset buttons beneath it. AM/FM, a CD player, RDS and an AUX input come as standard.

This is the same radio as in the Renault Clio III, Mégane III and Twingo II. The security code is a four-digit number.

Media Nav (option on higher trims)

The Media Nav is a full navigation system with a touchscreen, developed by LG Electronics for Renault/Dacia. You'll find it on the Stepway trim and later also on the Comfort trim. The Media Nav has no CD player but reads music from USB.

The Media Nav also has a security code, but uses a different unlock method (serial number instead of PRE-code).

PRE-code: the quickest route

The PRE-code is a hidden function of the Update List radio that lets you retrieve a short identification code from the radio's memory — without removing anything.

How does it work?

Switch on the ignition (engine off).

The display shows "CODE".

Press and hold button 1 and button 6 at the same time. These are the outermost preset buttons: the far left and the far right.

Hold them down for three to five seconds.

The display will show a code consisting of one letter followed by three digits — for example V873 or F412.

Note down the PRE-code precisely, including the letter. With this PRE-code you can request the radio code via MyRenaultRadioCode.com. You won't need the serial number of the radio at all. ### It's not working? If in doubt, try: - Button 1 + button 5 at the same time - Button 2 + button 5 at the same time Is the radio not responding at all? Then it's probably locked after too many incorrect code attempts. Wait an hour with the ignition on and try again.

Retrieving the radio code via the code card

When you buy a new Sandero II, Dacia supplies an anti-theft card with the radio code and the car's registration. This card is found:

  • In the document wallet in the glovebox
  • Between the pages of the service booklet
  • With the spare keys in a small envelope

Bought second-hand without this card? Then use the PRE-code method or remove the radio for the serial number.

Removing the radio from the Sandero II

If the PRE-code doesn't work and you need the serial number, the radio will have to come out.

What you need

  • DIN release keys or a thin plastic spatula
  • Phillips screwdriver size 2

Step by step (Update List)

Switch off the ignition.

The Update List sits in a standard DIN slot. Insert two DIN keys into the narrow slots on either side of the radio.

Push the keys in until you feel a click.

Pull the radio gently forward. The cables at the back are long enough to read the sticker. ### Removing the Media Nav The Media Nav sits behind a plastic surround. Remove the surround by carefully prising it loose with a plastic pry tool. You'll then see the screws holding the unit in place.

Reading the serial number

The serial number is on a barcode sticker on the side of the radio.

  • Update List: the number starts with 7700, 8200 or 281115... followed by further digits. The Sandero II-specific part number is 281150954R.
  • Media Nav: a longer serial number, usually starting with 8201 followed by six digits.

The last three or four digits of the serial number are often the same as the PRE-code — handy as a cross-check.

Entering the code in the Sandero II

Switch on the ignition. The display shows "CODE - - - -".

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit appears.

Set buttons 2, 3 and 4 for the remaining digits.

Check the full code on the display.

Press and hold button 6 for two seconds to confirm. ### Media Nav On the Media Nav you enter the code via the touchscreen. After switching on, a numeric keypad appears on the screen. Enter the digits and tap OK or Confirm.

Resolving a lockout

After several incorrect attempts, the radio locks and the display shows "ERROR" or stops responding altogether.

Leave the ignition on — key in the "on" position, engine off.

Wait at least thirty minutes (Update List) or sixty minutes (Media Nav).

The waiting time increases with each new incorrect attempt.

After the waiting time, "CODE" appears again.
