Radio Code Opel Astra H

With the Astra H, Opel launched one of its best-selling models in 2004. The radios in this model — from the basic CD30 to the CD70 Navi — all share the same security method. But there is one important difference from other brands: Opel locks the radio **permanently** after ten wrong codes.

With the Astra H, Opel launched one of its best-selling models in 2004. The radios in this model — from the basic CD30 to the CD70 Navi — all share the same security method. But there is one important difference from other brands: Opel locks the radio permanently after ten wrong codes.

From CD30 to CD70 Navi — four radio variants in the Astra H

Opel supplied the Astra H with four radio variants:

CD30 — The entry-level model. A simple CD radio with a green display and six preset buttons. Built by Blaupunkt (later Grundig). The most common variant.

CD30 MP3 — The same radio with MP3 support. Recognisable by the "MP3" logo. Standard on Cosmo and Edition trims.

CDC40 Opera — Premium variant with a built-in CD changer for six discs. Better sound, but the same security method.

CD70 Navi — The top model with a colour screen and built-in DVD navigation. A larger display than the CD30. Uses the same entry procedure for the radio code.

Where do you find the radio code?

Opel called the code card the Car Pass. This card — credit-card-sized — contains the radio code and was supplied on delivery. Look in:

1
The document wallet with the Opel service booklet
2
The glovebox — as a loose card or in a compartment
3
With the spare keys Lost the Car Pass? An Opel dealer can issue a new Car Pass based on your vehicle identification number (VIN). Expect to pay twenty to fifty euros.

Centre panel off, read the BP sticker — how to remove the Astra H radio

The CD30 and CD30 MP3 in the Astra H sit behind a dashboard panel. You'll need:

  • Plastic trim removal tool
  • Torx T20 screwdriver

Steps:

1
Remove the centre panel around the radio and climate controls by carefully prising it off.
2
Undo the Torx T20 screws in the corners of the radio.
3
Slide the radio forward. ### Two serial numbers on the sticker The sticker on the radio shows two numbers: - BP number — Starts with "BP" + fourteen digits. This is what you need for the code. - GM number — Starts with "GM0205" or similar. This is the Opel part number, not relevant for the code.

Hold down the AS button — how to enter the Opel code

The Opel Astra H code entry works with the AS button and the preset buttons:

1
Switch on the ignition. The display shows a dashed code or waits for input.
2
Hold down the AS button until the display shows "10 - - - -". The number ten is your remaining attempts.
3
Press button 1 to set the first digit.
4
Set the remaining digits using buttons 2, 3 and 4.
5
Hold down the AS button again to confirm. If the code is correct, the radio will start playing.

Ten attempts and no second chance

With each wrong attempt the display counts down: 9, 8, 7... After ten wrong codes the Opel radio locks permanently. There's no waiting period — the radio is permanently locked.

A permanently locked radio can only be unlocked:

  • By an Opel dealer with Tech2 diagnostic equipment
  • By a specialist with OP-COM software

This is a significant difference from Volkswagen (two attempts, temporary lockout) and Ford (ten attempts, temporary lockout). With Opel, every attempt counts.

Frequently asked questions

The Astra H came with a CD30 or CD30 MP3 as the standard radio, a CDC40 Opera as the premium option, or a CD70 Navi with colour screen and navigation. All were made by Blaupunkt or Grundig.
Hold down the AS button until the display shows '10 - - - -'. Set each digit using buttons 1-4 and confirm by holding down AS again. You have ten attempts.
After ten wrong attempts an Opel radio locks permanently. Only a dealer with Tech2 equipment can then unlock the radio. This is different from VW or Renault, where the lockout is temporary.
The Car Pass is a credit-card-sized card with the radio code on it. It's in the document wallet or service booklet. A replacement Car Pass is available from the Opel dealer for around 20 to 50 euros.
Yes. The CD70 Navi with navigation uses the same security code as the CD30. The entry procedure is the same: AS button and preset buttons 1-4.
