When Opel launched the Mokka in 2012, it was the brand's first proper SUV. Compact, practical and affordable — exactly what a large slice of the European market was looking for. With a competitive entry price and a well-equipped interior, the Mokka quickly found its way into family driveways and company car fleets alike. And now that many of these cars are getting on in years and the battery eventually needs replacing, owners often find themselves facing a familiar situation: the radio is asking for a code that was supposed to be tucked away in the paperwork all along.

The Mokka A (J13, 2012–2019) featured three generations of infotainment systems across its production run:

• CD 400 — the base audio system with CD player, FM radio and Bluetooth. Small display, physical buttons.
• IntelliLink R 4.0 — the touchscreen system without built-in navigation. 7-inch screen, smartphone integration via the IntelliLink app.
• Navi 900 IntelliLink — the flagship system with built-in navigation, 8-inch touchscreen and real-time traffic information.

All three use a four-digit security code.

The Opel Mokka radio locks automatically after any interruption to its power supply. After replacing the battery, a blown fuse, or a repair during which the battery was temporarily disconnected, the display will show "LOCKED", "CODE", or the touchscreen will prompt you to enter a code.

This is a deliberate anti-theft measure. A genuine Opel radio is worthless in another vehicle without the corresponding code.

With the Mokka, there are several options:

• Security card — when the car was new, a small card with the radio code was included with the vehicle documents. It is often found in the document wallet in the glovebox.
• IntelliLink/Navi 900 menu — the touchscreen models display the serial number in the settings menu, after which you can request the code.
• MyOpel portal — owners who have registered their vehicle with Opel may be able to retrieve the radio code via the MyOpel portal.
• Opel dealer — with the radio's serial number and proof of ownership, the dealer can look up the code for you.

CD 400

The serial number is printed on a sticker on the side of the radio unit. You will need to slide the radio partially out of the dashboard to read it. The serial number typically begins with letters followed by a sequence of digits.

The CD 400 sits recessed in the centre panel of the Mokka and is accessible once the surrounding trim has been removed.

CD 400

After two incorrect attempts, the Mokka radio will lock. The message "LOCKED" or a waiting period indicator will appear on the screen.

Solution:

• Trying to enter a touchscreen code using physical buttons — on the IntelliLink and Navi 900, code entry works via the touchscreen, not via buttons.
• Confusing the dashboard VIN with the radio serial number — the chassis number and the radio serial number are two entirely different things.
• Disconnecting the battery during a lockout — this resets the waiting period. Leave everything as it is.
