Radio Code Toyota Avensis II

Toyota consistently chose Fujitsu Ten as the audio system supplier for the Avensis II — a Japanese manufacturer that also supplied other Toyota models. This has a practical consequence: the radios in the Avensis II share the WEL serial number system with a large part of the Toyota range from the same period. Once you know the procedure for one Toyota Fujitsu Ten radio, that knowledge applies broadly across multiple models.

The Toyota Avensis second generation (internally T250) was produced from 2003 to 2009 and offered a Fujitsu Ten radio for the European market:

Fujitsu Ten base radio — a single-DIN unit with CD player, AM/FM, and a compact display. This system is fitted to virtually all Avensis IIs without factory navigation. After a power interruption, the display will ask for a 4-digit security code.

Fujitsu Ten with navigation — a navigation variant available on higher trim levels. Navigation via CD-ROM maps. This system also has a serial number on the sticker and uses a conventional code.

In most Avensis IIs sold in Europe, the base DIN radio is fitted. If you are unsure which variant you have, check whether there is a separate navigation screen in the dashboard or whether the navigation is integrated into the radio unit itself.

Fujitsu Ten uses its own serial number series for Toyota radios. On many variants the serial number begins with WEL followed by alphanumeric characters, or it may be an alphanumeric combination without a fixed prefix depending on the production year.

The serial number is on a sticker on the side or rear of the radio — visible once you have removed the unit from the centre console. Note down the full sequence, including letters and any hyphens, exactly as shown on the sticker.
