Radio Code Renault Clio IV

Battery replaced and now "CODE" is showing on the display. Or you've bought a second-hand Clio IV and the previous owner no longer knows the code. The good news: with the Clio IV, everything depends on which radio is fitted — and that also determines how you get the code back.

Which radio does your Clio IV have?

The Renault Clio IV (2012–2019) was supplied with two fundamentally different infotainment systems. They may look similar at first glance, but the approach is completely different.

Update List — physical buttons, small display

The Update List is the standard radio in the Clio IV. You'll recognise it immediately by:

A narrow rectangular display (no touchscreen)
Six fixed preset buttons below the display
Two narrow slots on either side of the bezel (for DIN release keys)
The name "Renault" or no brand name visible on the front panel

This radio uses the car's CAN-bus system. After a loss of power (battery disconnected, radio removed), it will ask for a four-digit security code. Without that code, you'll get no sound.

Media Nav — touchscreen, no buttons

The Media Nav is the optional or standard infotainment system on higher trim levels and later models. Key features:

Large 7-inch touchscreen, integrated into the centre console
No row of preset buttons
The screen protrudes slightly from the dashboard
Sometimes includes navigation

The Media Nav also has a security code, but you enter it via the on-screen keyboard — not using physical buttons.

Retrieving the PRE-code without removing the radio

With the Update List, you can retrieve the so-called PRE-code using the display — you don't even need to take the radio out of the dashboard.

Steps:

Switch the ignition on. The radio displays "CODE".

Press and hold button 1 and button 6 simultaneously.

Wait three to five seconds.

The PRE-code appears on the display — a letter followed by three digits, for example A247 or D391.

Make a note of the PRE-code. You can then use this PRE-code to calculate the official radio code through a certified service. This method does not work on the Media Nav (there are no physical buttons for this combination). For the Media Nav, you'll need the unit's serial number.

Removing the Update List

The Update List is held in place by DIN clips. You'll need Renault release keys (also known as DIN removal keys, product code CT22UV01 or similar, costing around three to five pounds).

Steps:

Switch off the ignition and wait a moment.

Insert the release keys into the two narrow slots on the left and right of the radio.

Push the keys slightly outward (away from the radio) until you feel the clips release.

Carefully pull the radio straight out.

Disconnect the ISO connector and aerial plug. The serial number is on a barcode sticker on the right-hand side or rear of the unit. It typically starts with 8200 or 2811. The last four characters (a letter followed by three digits) match the PRE-code. ### Removing the Media Nav The Media Nav is not held in by DIN clips — it's secured with screws and clips. Steps:

Remove the trim panel surrounding the centre console (press-fit clips, no tools required).

For quicker access to the serial number: remove the right-hand air vent next to the Media Nav. The serial number sticker is on the underside of the unit and becomes visible without fully removing it.

For complete removal: undo the Torx or Phillips screws securing the unit.

Pull the unit forward and disconnect all connectors.

The Update List serial number starts with 8200 or 2811, followed by further digits. The last four characters form the PRE-code. For the Media Nav, look for the number beneath the barcode on the sticker.

Entering the code

Entering the code on the Update List

Switch the ignition on. The display shows "CODE - - - -" (or flashes with dashes).

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit of your code appears.

Use button 2 for the second digit, button 3 for the third, and button 4 for the fourth.

Hold button 6 for two to three seconds to confirm.

If the code is correct, the radio switches on immediately. Alternative via steering wheel controls: Use the small scroll wheel on the steering wheel controls to select each digit, then press the mute button to confirm. Hold the mute button after the last digit to submit. ### Entering the code on the Media Nav After a loss of power, the Media Nav will prompt you for the code as the system starts up. Enter the four digits using the on-screen keyboard and press OK or Enter.

Blocked radio

On the Update List: if you enter an incorrect code too many times, "ERROR" appears on the display. The radio will no longer accept any input.

Solution: Leave the ignition on (radio on) for thirty to sixty minutes. After the waiting period, "CODE" will reappear on the display. Each additional incorrect attempt extends the waiting time.

The Media Nav also locks out after multiple incorrect attempts. Consult a Renault dealer if the screen no longer accepts new input.

Important: Never enter 0000. This code is never valid on Renault systems and does count as an incorrect attempt.
