PRE-code method for the Update List

The Update List has a built-in PRE-code function. This short code allows you to retrieve the radio code without removing the unit.

How to retrieve the PRE-code:

Switch on the ignition. The radio displays "CODE".

Hold button 1 and button 6 simultaneously — the outermost buttons on the left and right.

Keep them held for three to five seconds until a code appears on the display.

The PRE-code consists of one letter followed by three digits, for example A542 or V318.

Make a note of this code — this is your PRE-code. If the 1+6 combination doesn't work, try 1+5 or 2+5 — this works on some variants. The PRE-code is not the unlock code itself. You use the PRE-code to request the actual four-digit code through an online service.

PRE-code for the Carminat Becker

The Carminat Becker works differently from the Update List. There is no standardised 1+6 button combination. Depending on the software version, there are two routes:

Via the screen: Go to the navigation settings menu. Look for "System", "Info", or "Diagnostics". The serial number of the unit may be displayed here.

Via the sticker: If the screen provides no information, you will need to partially remove the Becker unit in order to read the serial number from the sticker on the side.

Retrieving the radio code using the code card

If you still have the original documentation, check these locations:

Anti-theft card in the document wallet — credit-card sized, with the radio code printed on it
Service book — sometimes stuck inside the front cover
Glovebox — some dealers attached a spare sticker to the inner panel

The Laguna II is a car from the early 2000s. Many second- and third-hand owners no longer have the original card. In that case, the PRE-code method or serial number is the recommended route.

Removing the radio — Update List

The Update List sits in a standard DIN cage and is held in place by internal spring clips. You will need DIN release keys (also known as CT22UV01 or similar).

Step by step:

Switch off the ignition.

Insert the DIN release keys into the slots on either side of the radio — two per side.

Push the hooks slightly outwards to release the clips.

Pull the radio gently forwards — four to five centimetres is enough to read the sticker.

The cables are long enough; you do not need to disconnect them simply to read the serial number.

The Carminat Becker is a double-DIN unit that is mounted differently from the Update List. Depending on the version, it is secured with screws behind a trim panel or with a proprietary mounting clip system.

Remove the plastic trim surround around the navigation system — start at a corner and gently prise with a plastic trim tool.

Undo the visible fixing screws (Torx or Philips, depending on the version).

Slide the unit forwards. Note: the Carminat Becker has more cabling than a standard radio — disconnect the connectors for complete removal.

Read the serial number from the sticker on the side or rear of the unit.

Entering the code — Update List

Switch on the ignition. The display shows "CODE" or "0000".

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit of your code appears.

Do the same with buttons 2, 3, and 4 for the remaining digits.

Check all four digits on the display.

Hold button 6 for two to three seconds to confirm. If the code is correct, the radio will immediately switch to normal operation.

Entering the code — Carminat Becker

The Carminat Becker may prompt you to enter the code via the screen. Follow the on-screen instructions: enter the four digits using the touch-sensitive buttons or the rotary knob on the front panel, depending on the generation.

Lockout after incorrect attempts

Too many incorrect attempts will trigger a temporary lockout. The display will show "ERROR" or the radio will stop responding.

Leave the ignition on.

Wait at least thirty minutes (sometimes sixty).

After the waiting period, "CODE" will reappear and you can try again. Each incorrect attempt extends the waiting time. Never enter the code by guessing.
