Radio Code Renault Megane III

Three body styles, one name — the Megane III came as a hatchback, coupé, estate, and cabriolet, and it was fitted with three quite different audio systems. Which approach you need depends entirely on what is in your dashboard.

Which system does your Megane III have?

Look at the centre of the dashboard to identify what you are working with:

Update List — a narrow display at the top, with six preset buttons in a row below it. This is the most common radio in the Megane III (2008–2015). Compact and practical, with CD/MP3 playback and an AUX input.

Carminat TomTom — a small screen with navigation arrows and a limited number of fixed buttons around the edge. This navigation system was an optional extra on the Megane III and has its own security code.

R-Link — a large 7-inch touchscreen with few or no physical buttons. This system was introduced with the facelift in 2012. Important: R-Link has no security code. After a battery replacement or power interruption, R-Link simply restarts on its own.

R-Plug / Radio+ — found on some facelift models (also designated NX1031). It looks similar to the Update List but has a different front panel. The PRE-code method works on this system too.

Megane III versus Megane II: what changes?

In the Megane II, you had a choice between the Tuner List (pre-2005) or the Update List. The Megane III starts with the Update List as standard and adds R-Link as an option — something that did not exist in the Megane II. If your car has a Carminat TomTom, the procedure differs from the Carminat Navigation found in the Megane II (which was a Becker unit), even though the names sound similar.

Retrieving the PRE-code: Update List and R-Plug

The Update List and the R-Plug system both support the PRE-code method — the quickest way to obtain your unlock code without having to remove the radio.

How it works

Switch the ignition on — the engine does not need to be running.

Wait until the display shows CODE or 0000.

Hold button 1 and button 6 simultaneously — the leftmost and rightmost preset buttons.

After three to five seconds, a code will appear: one letter followed by three digits, for example V512 or A089.

Note this code down. This is your PRE-code. ### Alternative combinations If 1+6 does not work on your particular unit, try the following: - Button 1 and button 5 simultaneously - Button 2 and button 5 simultaneously If the radio does not respond at all, it is likely blocked. Anti-theft card and MyRenault

When the car was first sold, an anti-theft card was included in the documentation. Check:

The document wallet or folder in the glovebox
The service book — in the pocket at the back, or loosely tucked inside
With the spare keys, in the same envelope

If you bought the Megane III second-hand and the card was not included, you can try retrieving the code via MyRenault using the vehicle's VIN. This works for a proportion of Megane III models.

Removing the radio to find the serial number

If the PRE-code method does not work, you can find the serial number on the sticker attached to the radio unit itself.

Tools required

DIN release keys — product code CT22UV01. Cost: £3–6. Required for the Update List and R-Plug. The R-Link system uses a different mounting arrangement (trim surround and screws) and has no security code — so removing it to find a serial number is not necessary.

Step by step (Update List)

Switch the ignition off.

Insert the DIN release keys into the four corner slots on either side of the radio.

Push the keys gently outwards until you feel the internal clips release.

Carefully pull the radio forwards. The cables are long enough to allow you to read the sticker. ### Serial number location The sticker is on the side or rear of the radio unit. Look for a number beginning with 8200 or 2811. The last four characters — one letter and three digits — are the same as the PRE-code. ### Carminat TomTom: different approach The Carminat TomTom is mounted in its own bracket within the centre console. To obtain the serial number or the code, your best option is to contact a Renault dealer with the vehicle's VIN, or to request the code using the navigation disc that originally came with the system.

R-Link: no code required

The R-Link system in the Megane III is secured differently from a conventional radio. R-Link does not use a four-digit security code. After a power loss, a battery replacement, or a technical reset, the system starts up again automatically.

If a code prompt does appear on the R-Link screen, it is not a radio code — it is more likely a PIN for a connected service or a software update protection screen. In that case, contact a Renault dealer or the MyRenault app support team.

Entering the code: Update List

Once you have your four-digit code, here is how to enter it on the Update List:

Switch the ignition on. The display will show CODE or 0000 flashing.

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit is correct.

Use button 2 for the second digit.

Use button 3 for the third digit.

Use button 4 for the fourth digit.

Check all four digits carefully.

Hold button 6 (for approximately two seconds). If the code is correct, the radio will switch on immediately. ### Using the steering wheel controls If your Megane III has steering wheel controls with a scroll wheel, turn the wheel to select each digit, press to confirm, then repeat for the remaining three digits. After entering the fourth digit, hold the button to confirm.

Blocking after incorrect attempts

Entered an incorrect code? The radio will lock:

Keep the ignition on — do not switch it off.

Wait at least 30 minutes. After multiple incorrect attempts, this can increase to 60 minutes or longer.

Once the wait time has elapsed, CODE or 0000 will reappear on the display.

Now enter only the code you are confident is correct. Never enter 0000 as a test — this code does not exist in Renault's system and will trigger the block immediately.
