Which radio does the Fiesta Mk6 have?

Ford fitted the Fiesta Mk6 with two radio options:

Ford 6000 CD — The standard radio in every Fiesta Trend, Cool and Sport. Built by Visteon, recognisable by the oval Ford logo and the green or amber display. This is by far the most common variant.

Ford Sony — Exclusive to Titanium and Individual trims. Recognisable by the Sony logo and the slightly different button layout with a separate volume wheel. Sounds significantly better thanks to the extra speakers.

Both radios use the V-code system for identification.

Ford 6000 CD in detail

The Ford 6000 CD (also known as 6000 CD RDS) by Visteon is recognisable by the oval blue Ford logo on the left of the fascia. The display is green or amber and, when the power is interrupted, shows the text "CODE" in capitals. It has six preset buttons, a CD slot and an AUX input on the front on later-built units. The V-code is stored both on a label on the rear and in the radio's memory (readable via the display with button 1+6).

Ford Sony in detail

The Sony variant has a clear Sony logo at the bottom right of the fascia and a separate control knob for the volume on the right-hand side. The button layout differs from the 6000 CD: the confirmation button for the code is the asterisk (*) and not button 5. This is the most common mistake among Fiesta owners with the Sony variant — they confirm with button 5 and don't understand why nothing happens. The Sony radio sounds fuller thanks to active signal processing and 4×45 watts of power, but in terms of security and V-code it works identically to the 6000 CD.

How do you read the V-code?

The Fiesta Mk6 radio can show the serial number (the V-code) directly on the display. You don't need to remove the radio.

Turn on the ignition. The display shows "CODE".

Press and hold button 1 and button 6 at the same time.

After a few seconds the V-code appears: the letter V followed by six digits. For example: V248173.

Make a note of this code. With the V-code you can request the radio code.

Finding the radio code on the code card

Ford supplied a keycode card with every Fiesta. Possible locations:

Glovebox — sticker on the inside or a loose card
Audio Guide booklet — the thin booklet about operating the radio
Boot — under the floor lining
With the keys — in the same wallet as the spare key

How do you remove the radio?

Ford uses semi-circular release pins that are specific to Ford. Volkswagen pins (round) don't fit.

Tools: Four Ford release keys, product code PC5-132 (Autoleads). Price: four to eight pounds.

The Ford release keys (PC5-132) are small metal pins with a slightly curved tip. They're available from virtually any car audio shop and online. Make sure you buy the right type: some suppliers sell "universal" sets in which the Ford variant is included separately. You need exactly four — two for the left-hand side and two for the right-hand side of the radio.

Steps:

Turn off the ignition.

Insert the four pins into the holes around the radio — two on the left, two on the right.

Push straight in until you feel a click.

Pull the radio straight out towards you.

Read the V-code label on the top or side. The holes for the release pins are two millimetres in diameter and sit at an equal distance from the corners of the radio. If you don't feel the pins click, try inserting them slightly deeper — they need to bypass the internal locking mechanism. On the Sony variant the holes are in the same position, but the fascia can sit slightly tighter due to the larger housing.

Entering the code

Ford 6000 CD

Turn on the ignition. The display shows "CODE".

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit is correct.

Set the remaining digits with buttons 2, 3 and 4.

Confirm with button 5. ### Ford Sony The same procedure, but confirm with the asterisk button (*) instead of button 5. This difference is crucial — button 5 does nothing on the Sony variant.

Locked out? LOCKED on the display

Ford gives you ten attempts — considerably more generous than many other brands. After ten incorrect codes, "LOCKED" appears on the display.

The reset is simple:

Leave the ignition on for thirty minutes.

After the waiting period, "CODE" appears again.

You get another ten attempts.
