Radio Code Ford Galaxy

Big people, big cars. With its seven seats and generously proportioned interior, the Ford Galaxy II attracted a loyal following of buyers who valued safety and space over driving dynamics. As a family MPV with Kuga underpinnings and S-Max DNA, the Galaxy remained a sensible choice for decades. After a battery change or a repair to the electrical system, though, another issue crops up: the radio asks for a code that hasn't been needed in years.

Ford supplied the Galaxy II (WA6, 2006-2015) with three different audio systems:

• 6000 CD — the base model, a DIN radio by Visteon. CD player without display navigation.
• 6006 CDC — a more comprehensive variant with a six-disc CD changer in the boot.
• Sony DAB — the premium system for higher trim levels, with DAB+ digital radio, CD and a colour screen.

All three models use a five-digit security code.

Ford built anti-theft protection into its radio systems back in the 1990s. With every power interruption — a flat battery, replacing the battery or a power outage after a repair — the code requirement kicks in again. The display shows "CODE", "ENTER CODE" or "LOCKED".

The five-digit code is unique to your radio's serial number. If you fit the radio in another car, it won't work without the correct code.

Check these places before you take the radio out of the dashboard:

• Security Code Card — when originally supplied by Ford, a small card came with the car's paperwork bearing the text "Security Code Card". It shows the five-digit code and the M serial number.
• Glovebox — the card is sometimes loose in the document wallet or behind the service booklet.
• Behind the centre armrest — some previous owners kept the card in the storage compartments.

No longer have the card? Then you'll need the radio's serial number.

The serial number of a Ford radio is on a sticker on the top or side of the unit. It always begins with the letter M, followed by seven or eight digits, for example M123456.

You have to pull the radio out of the dashboard a little way to reach the sticker. An alternative is to call up the serial number via the menu (Sony DAB only):

The 6000 CD and 6006 CDC are held in place by two screws behind a plastic surround. The Sony DAB system has a different mounting.

• Torx T10 or T20 screwdriver

Ford radios use preset buttons 1 to 5 for entering a five-digit code. Each button corresponds to one position in the code.

After three to five incorrect attempts, the Ford Galaxy radio shows the message "LOCKED" or "WAIT 1 HOUR". The radio won't accept any new input.

Solution:

• Trying a four-digit code — the Ford Galaxy uses a five-digit code. Enter exactly five digits.
• Wrong button sequence — button 1 sets the first digit, not the value "1". Press it repeatedly to count up.
• Trying to power up the radio outside the car — without an earth connection the radio won't start and you can't enter the code.
