Radio Code Ford Fiesta Mk7

The Fiesta Mk7 is the facelift of the popular JA8 generation — recognisable by its refreshed front end and more modern interior details. When it comes to the radio, there's an interesting transitional period going on here: early Mk7 models still have the familiar Ford 6000 CD, while later versions received the SYNC 1 touchscreen. And those two work completely differently when it comes to the radio code.

Which radio is fitted in the Ford Fiesta Mk7?

The Fiesta Mk7 (2013–2017, also known as the Mk7.5 or JA8 facelift) is available with three different radio options:

Ford 6000 CD — the standard CD radio in the early Mk7 (2013–around 2015). Recognisable by the four round release holes in the corners and the simple button layout. Requires a four-digit code after a loss of power.

Sony DAB — available as an upgrade option with DAB+ reception and an improved sound processor. Recognisable by the Sony logo on the front panel. Also requires a four-digit code, but the confirmation button is different.

Ford SYNC 1 — touchscreen infotainment system that became standard on higher trim levels (Titanium, ST-Line) from around 2016. Does not need a traditional radio code — SYNC 1 uses vehicle authentication and boots up normally after a battery change.

When does the Fiesta Mk7 ask for a code?

The 6000 CD and Sony DAB activate their anti-theft protection whenever power is lost. Typical situations:

Battery change or a flat battery
Disconnecting the battery for maintenance
Replacing a fuse in the radio circuit

The display then shows "CODE" and the radio waits for the correct four-digit entry. Got SYNC 1? Then the screen simply boots up without asking for a code.

Retrieving the serial number via the screen

On the Fiesta Mk7 you often don't need to remove the radio to get the serial number:

Ford 6000 CD and Sony DAB (V-code method):

Turn the ignition on.

Press and hold buttons 1 and 6 together for three seconds.

The radio cycles through a series of information screens and displays the serial number at the end — beginning with the letter V, followed by six digits.

Note down the full V serial number. This works on most Fiesta Mk7 models with a 6000 CD or Sony DAB.

How do you remove the radio from the Fiesta Mk7?

The Ford 6000 CD and Sony DAB have four round release holes in the corners of the front panel. You'll need DIN release keys — also known as PC5-132 or "Ford radio removal keys".

Step by step:

Turn the ignition off.

Insert all four release keys into the four corner holes of the radio's front panel.

Bend the ends of the keys slightly outwards (away from the radio) — this releases the internal spring clips.

Pull the radio out evenly and carefully. Use both hands.

The radio will now slide out of the dashboard. You don't need to disconnect the cables just to read the serial number.

The serial number is on a sticker on the side or top of the radio chassis. Tip: Practise with one key first to get a feel for the right depth before inserting all four at once.

Entering the code — Ford 6000 CD

Turn the ignition on. The display shows "CODE".

Press button 1 repeatedly until the first digit appears (0–9, each press +1).

Use buttons 2, 3 and 4 for the second, third and fourth digit.

Check that the four digits are correct.

Press button 5 to confirm the code. With a correct code the radio switches straight over to normal mode.

Entering the code — Sony DAB

The Sony DAB uses the same entry procedure for the digits, but the confirmation button is different:

Press buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 repeatedly for the respective digits.

Confirm the code with the asterisk (*) button — not with button 5. This is a common mistake: anyone used to the 6000 CD presses button 5, but on the Sony DAB that's the wrong button.

Preventing and resolving lockout

The Fiesta Mk7 radio allows ten attempts before it permanently locks with "LOCKED".

If the radio locks (but doesn't yet show LOCKED), all you need to do is wait: leave the ignition on for at least thirty minutes. After the waiting period "CODE" appears again.

If it shows LOCKED, you'll need a Ford dealer. There's no DIY solution for a fully locked system.

Protect yourself: Never enter the code if you're not sure of it. Ten attempts sounds generous, but they run out fast when you're guessing.

SYNC 1 — no code needed

Does your Fiesta Mk7 have the SYNC 1 touchscreen? Then you don't need to do anything after a battery change. SYNC 1 stores its authentication in the vehicle itself and doesn't ask for a PIN code.

To check whether you have SYNC 1: the system has a touchscreen (around 6 inches) and a SYNC logo on the start-up screen.
